Eileen E. Rudat (McCarthy), 98, of Whitehall, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, after a brief unexpected hospitalization. In the days preceding her passing, she was surrounded by many loved ones. Eileen was born Oct. 12, 1925, to Eleanor Dietz McCarthy Weiss and Joseph Roy McCarthy, in Pittsburgh. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert G. Rudat and beloved mother of Linda Riefer (Robert), Marlene Miller (the late Robert), Robert Rudat (Leslie) and Donald Rudat (Debbie Morgan). She was the cherished grandmother of Karen Riefer, Robert Riefer (Megan), Derek Miller, Blake Miller, Christopher Rudat (Rachel), Dana Rudat (Charles Davis), Bryce Rudat and Michael Rudat (Adriana); and cherished great-grandmother of Keegan Riefer, Emily Riefer and Aiden Rudat. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Haid; her brother, Ronald Weiss (Patricia); and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis McCarthy. Eileen had been a bookkeeper since graduating high school, many years for her husband's carpet company, but the occupation that always meant the most to her was being a mother. Her unselfish love and nurturing care for both her children and grandchildren were top on her list. Her home was always open when they needed it and the hub for family events. She loved gardening, writing poems, writing letters, crocheting afghans and baskets, sewing and mending, putting up Christmas platforms, filling funny Christmas stockings, word puzzles, playing bananagrams, photos and most of all, music. She loved playing the organ and singing and had a song for every word or phrase said. Her spirit, optimism, and can-do attitude, no matter what, set a good example for all. Eileen was a long-time member of Stewart Avenue Lutheran Church, and her unshakable faith was the other priority in her life. She was a fierce prayer warrior, praying for God to send guardian angels to hundreds of people on her memorized prayer list each night. Now she is our guardian angel.
