Where can veterans in the greater Pittsburgh area go to enjoy free food, games and entertainment while learning about their VA benefits? VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Boardwalk in the 'Burgh!
Veterans, their families and significant others are invited to the H.J. Heinz III campus in O'Hara Township for the event on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All veterans are welcome, whether or not enrolled in VA health care.
The event features:
- Free hot dogs, chips and cold beverages
- Cornhole with friends
- Face painting for kids
- Dunk tank featuring VA staff
- Live entertainment with Navy veteran Richard "Doc" Mondak of Rust Bucket
- Fresh produce for purchase
- Information on VA benefits
- Opportunity to check eligibility for VA health care -- bring your DD214
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting on the new Center for Whole Health and Wellness. Women veterans are encouraged to stop by the Learning Exchange in building 71 at 1 p.m. for a presentation and Q&A session on womens VA health care benefits.
In addition, Veterans with a service-connected disability who were separated from the military under other than honorable conditions through either an administrative discharge or by special court martial can meet with a VBA representative to check their eligibility for VA benefits and health care under a recent rule change.
