BBQ chicken sale
Boy Scout Troop 284 of Irwin will sell barbecue chicken beginning at 11 a.m. June 14 until sold out at Busy Beaver, located on Norwin Avenue in the Norwin Hills Shopping Center in North Huntingdon.
The $14 dinner includes a half-chicken, baked beans, a roll and a cookie.
Proceeds from the sale help fund camping trips, leadership development, service projects and year-round adventures.
Concerts in the Park
Irwin will once again hold its Concerts in the Park series this summer, featuring five performances at 6 p.m. Sundays at Irwin Park off Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Jaggerz will open the series June 14, followed by the Backstage Buffet Band on June 28, The Hawkeyes on July 12, My So-Called 90s Band on July 26, and Saddle Up on Aug. 2.
Food trucks will be at the shows, and 50-50 raffle tickets will be sold.
Library book sale
The Friends of the Norwin Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 17 at the library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
All proceeds will benefit the library, specifically the children’s summer reading program.
Those attending the book sale are asked to park in the lower parking lot.

Hernia education seminar
Independence Health System General Surgery Specialists will host a hernia education seminar and screening at 5:30 p.m. June 18 in the community rooms’ south entrance at The Square at Norwin, 8775 Norwin Ave., North Huntingdon.
Participants can learn about hernia types, risks, symptoms and advanced treatment options, including robotic-assisted surgery.
Drs. Sarah Treter and Mark Zelkovic, both surgeons, will lead the program.
Those who want to participate in the screening must attend the presentation. Participation is limited to the first 40 registrants.

Elks aid vets groups
The Norwin Elks recently distributed $9,850 to several area veterans organizations.
Organizations receiving assistance included the Bushy Run American Legion, Jeannette American Legion Post 344, Jeannette Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8240, Irwin American Legion Post 359, J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 of North Huntingdon, Manor American Legion Post 0472, the Jeannette and North Huntingdon chapters of Wreaths Across America, the Westmoreland County Office of Veterans Affairs, and the Westmoreland Food Bank Military Food Share program, according to Don Rohac, veterans affairs director for the Norwin Elks.
The Norwin Elks declined to disclose the amount of money each organization received.
The money was distributed in May during Military Appreciation Month. The Norwin Elks also hosted about 125 veterans at the first of two 2026 Military Food Share programs on May 7. Each veteran received approximately 70 pounds of frozen, fresh, boxed and canned food items.
Norwin reunion meet-and-greet
Members of the Norwin High School Class of 1971 are invited to a 55th reunion meet-and-greet this summer.
The gathering will take place at 6 p.m. July 18 at Sienna at Norwin, 10630 Route 30 in North Huntingdon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Church burger bashes set
Immaculate Conception Church will host a series of monthly summer burger bashes inside Our Lady’s Plaza, located at 308 Second St. in Irwin.
The events are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on four upcoming Saturdays: June 13, July 11, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12.
All community members are invited to attend.
Library passes for museums
Westmoreland County Libraries has partnered with several regional museums to offer free general admission to library cardholders for up to two adults and four children.
Passes can be obtained for Historic Hanna’s Town, West Overton Village, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Fort Ligonier, the Lincoln Highway Experience, the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Museum and historic Bushy Run Battlefield.
Passes can be checked out for one week. Cardholders are advised to check availability with their local library.

Trip planned to W.Va.
A bus trip and train ride are planned by the North Huntingdon AARP Senior Citizens for June 17-19.
The bus will leave St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 9:30 a.m. June 17 and arrive in Elkins, W. Va., around 4 p.m. Participants will see a dinner show that evening.
A scenic train ride will take place June 18 and 19.
The price is $855 per person for double occupancy and $1,040 for a single room. The price includes two nights’ accommodations, two dinner shows, and two train rides.

Lyme disease support group
The PA Lyme Resource Network will host a monthly Lyme disease support group meeting.
Meetings will take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Monroeville Public Library, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.

Suicide prevention training
Penn State Extension is offering free webinars on evidence-based training aimed at saving lives and reducing suicidal behaviors.
Participants can choose from one of the following two-hour training sessions, each held from 1 to 3 p.m., on June 16, July 21 and Aug. 25.
Penn State Extension educators will lead the QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention training. “Question, Persuade and Refer,” which was developed by the QPR Institute, teaches participants how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope to someone in need and how to get help.
Designed for all people, regardless of profession, who are concerned about helping others, QPR is an emergency mental health intervention intended to interrupt a crisis and direct someone to proper care. Attendees will discuss potential scenarios and engage in active listening and persuasion techniques.
Penn State Extension offers the seminar free of charge, but participants must register by 11:59 p.m. the day before the event to receive the link to access the webinar. The recording link will not be available after the webinar.
Continuing education credits are available.

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.
The association welcomes singles aged 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.
