The transportation company handling busing for the Norwin School District is seeking drivers for the upcoming school year.
First Student, a national bus company based in Cincinnati, is offering new drivers $26 per hour, a $3,000 sign-on bonus and paid training to obtain a commercial driver’s license.
An advertisement Norwin distributed this week states that drivers will have a guaranteed 25-hour workweek with a flexible schedule that frees them from work during the middle of the day.
Spokespersons for First Student and Norwin Superintendent Natalie McCracken could not be reached for comment Friday.
The $3,000 sign-on bonus First Student is offering new employees is less than the maximum $7,500 bonus the company offered in early January. However, the starting wage has risen from the $22.20 per hour offered at the start of the year.
The district responded to a bus driver shortage in January by consolidating bus routes and making daily adjustments to ensure service for the maximum number of students, McCracken said at the time.
Norwin also consolidated its transportation runs at the beginning of the 2025–2026 school year to increase capacity and eliminate unnecessary routes, McCracken said in January.
