Joseph Shurina, Jr., 71 of Curtisville, West Deer Township, passed peacefully at his home on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. He was born May 23, 1953, in Natrona Heights to the late Joseph and Dolores P. (Boldy) Shurina. Joe grew up in Curtisville and has lived in West Deer most of his life. Joe was a 1970 graduate of West Deer High School. He worked for US Steel as a crane operator for over 33 years. Joe was a member of Mount St. Peter R.C. Church, New Kensington, the Tri-County Trout Club, Lower Burrell, Rosedale Sportsman Club, and the 7th Street Sportsman Club, New Ken. He worked with the PA Fish Commission in the SMART Angler Program, teaching the youth to fish. Joe loved fishing, hunting, and boating on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, though he loved spending time with his grandchildren most of all. Survivors include his children, Joseph M. (Stacie) Shurina, III of Churchville, NY, Shawn L. (Chrissy) Shurina of Fredericksburg, VA, and Melissa D. (Oscar Gonzalez) Shurina of Butler Township; ten grandchildren; and his siblings, Ronald (Janet) Shurina of Lower Burrell, Thomas (Charlet) Shurina of Buffalo Township, and Lisa A. (Ronald) Moser of Butler Township. Friends will be received Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township.
