Francis Michael "Frank" Shurina Sr., 77, of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at St. Andrew's Village, Indiana. The son of Francis J. and Mary (Strbak) Shurina, he was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Latrobe. Frank graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1964. He worked at Westinghouse Specialty Metals for 38 years until his retirement. He was a member of the SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, BPOE No. 406, and lifelong member of the Sokol Lodge No. 68, all of Blairsville. Frank was an outstanding athlete in high school, playing football, wrestling and baseball. Later in life, he enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing, but above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends at their camp called "We ain't right" in Cameron County. Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Nancy P. (Hughes) Shurina, whom he married Aug. 31, 1985; four children, Christine Kelly, of New Alexandria, Francis M. "Frank" Shurina Jr., of Derry, David Shurina (Nicole), of Derry, and Andrew Shurina, of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Travis and Shaun Kelly, Natalie and Tanner Shurina and Megan Jones; his sister, Mary Ann Frantz (Robert), of Freedom; his sister-in-law, Marie Shurina, of Canonsburg; and several nieces and numerous great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Shurina, mother and father-in-law, Francis and Grace Hughes, sister-in-law, Sandra Hughes, son-in-law, Paul Kelly, and nephew, Benjamin Gombita. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at the SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME INC., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, 155 N. Brady St., Blairsville, with Father Stephen R. Bugay, celebrant. Interment will be in the SS Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.
