Melvin R. Porterfield, 70, of New Stanton, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at home. He was born on Feb. 16, 1954, in Mount Pleasant, the son of the late Vaun and Barbara (Long) Porterfield. Melvin was a member of the band Any Road, with his son, Matthew. Melvin always enjoyed traveling to the beach and had a love for fishing and spending time with his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Mary (Hilewick) Porterfield, who has been by his side since they were 17 years old; his children, Seth Porterfield, and his wife, Mary, of Pittsburgh, and Matthew Porterfield of New Stanton; his grandchildren, William, Adam, Conner, and Aaron; and his siblings, Clifford "Frank," Cindy (Roy), Darryl (Cindy), Sandy, and Ron (Melanie). Melvin is also survived by his number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, the C. RICHARD MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 101 S. Fourth St., Youngwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
