James E. Crosby, Sr., 87, of Hecla, passed away on Sept. 15, 2024. Born on May 13, 1937, he lived a life full of passion and dedication to his family and interests. He proudly served in the US Army from 1959-1961. Prior to retirement, he worked as a laborer, then an inspector for the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County for 35 years. Jim had a deep love for horses and was a lifelong member of the Appalachian Wagon Train, the Tri-County Horse & Mule Association, and Wagoneers. He also held a lifetime membership with the Hecla Sportsmen's Club and Standard Shaft Club. Jim cherished the simple joys of life, working with his ponies, mowing grass, and sharing a few cold beers, and gambling with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 54 years, Glenda F. Crosby; granddaughter, Terri Lee; as well as eight brothers and two sisters. Jim is survived by his loving sons, James E. Crosby Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth, and Terry L. Crosby and his wife, Edith. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Rachael (Steve) Tylka, Jamie (Adam) Leonard, Mandy O'Leary, Shannan Simmers (Danny Couturiax), and Jenny Crosby. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren, Abigail (Lee) Wyland, Delilah and Derek O'Leary, and Cecelia Leonard; and one great-great-grandchild, Maria Wyland; and his two brothers, Bill and Harry Crosby. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, at the HOFFER WILT FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mount Pleasant Road, Norvelt, PA 15674, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, by Rev. Dale Porterfield, burial to follow in Hillview Cemetery with military honors.
