Stanley E. 'Chino' Homer, 91, of Yukon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 10, 1933, in Jacobs Creek. Son of the late Stanley and Anna (Davis) Homer. He graduated from South Huntingdon High School Class of 1951 and played on the football and basketball team. Chino played professional baseball from 1951 to 1952 and 1955 to 1956, in between serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He played outfield and first base for the Bradford Phillies, Lima Phillies, Grand Forks Chiefs, Pulaski Phillies, Trois Rivires Phillies, Reidsville Phillies, Schenectady Blue Jays and Salt Lake City Bees. He hit 32 total homeruns and compiled a career batting average of.266 in his 369-game career. He was an active lifetime member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon, where he served as an usher for over 50 years. He was a member of the Yukon Slovenian Club Lodge #728 and the Yukon Lion's Club. Chino was a self-employed, owner/operator truck driver. He worked for Fox Groceries, KMI/Kenworth, BMP Motor Express, Travers Motor Freight and Leonard Brothers. He began truck driving at the early age of 15 and ended when he was 87 years old. He also worked part time for Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. as a door attendant for 18 years. Chino loved his children and grandchildren, enjoyed attending all their sporting, dance and pageant events and taking the grandkids to the batting cages. He coached baseball at the Yough Senior High School for 25 years and little league in Yukon, for many years. Chino enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to the casino, watching the Pirate's and Philly's baseball games on television and the ID channel. He is preceded in death by both parents and loving wife, Aileen (Mackovsek) Homer of 70 years. He is survived by sons, Michael (Michele) Homer of Export, and Stanley (Cindy) Homer of New Stanton; daughter, Kathy (Gary) McClain of Ruffsdale; grandchildren, Rebecca (Tim), Brandon (Nicole) and Nicole (Nick) and great-granddaughter, Delaney. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME, INC. Rt 136 Madison, PA 15663 Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A funeral Mass will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 102 Center St. Yukon, PA 15698, with Fr. David Nazimek officiating. All those wishing to attend the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow at the Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, with full military honors by the Armbrust Veterans accorded.
