Wednesday’s “First Call” has the Pittsburgh Steelers tied to another wide receiver trade conversation. The Steelers made lots of roster moves and hosted a number of players for workouts Tuesday. The Dallas Cowboys suffered a blow when it comes to their injured reserve list in advance of their visit to Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.

And a former Penguin had a nice night in his new home.

Been down this road before

As if maniacally tracking news about one disgruntled wide receiver during training camp wasn’t enough, now we’ve got one to watch during the regular season.

The Steelers were in the middle of the Brandon Aiyuk trade talks for months. It never came to pass. He ended up signing a contract extension in San Francisco. Now the word is that Davante Adams is unhappy in Las Vegas and may wind up being traded.

According to multiple reports from the NFL Network, the Raiders receiver wants out of Sin City.

With all the online chatter surrounding the situation, Steelers running back Cordarrelle Patterson took the chance to advance the Steelers’ angle of the conversation.

It makes sense. The Steelers still have yet to sufficiently fill the void left by Diontae Johnson’s departure when he was traded to Carolina in exchange for Donte Jackson.

Raiders reporter Vinny Bonsignore has sources telling him that the Raiders are warming to the notion of moving Adams.

The Jets, Chiefs, Commanders and Packers are other teams that have been thrown around as potential destinations. Paul Gutierrez ofESPN claims the Raiders want a second-round draft pick and additional compensation in exchange.

Adams is a three-time All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler. So far this year he has 18 catches for 206 yards and one touchdown over three games. He didn’t play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns because of a hamstring injury.

Making it official

As anticipated, at least one threat to the Steelers will not be playing against them Sunday. The Cowboys have put DeMarcus Lawrence on injured reserve. That expected move officially occurred Tuesday.

The edge rusher suffered a foot injury against the New York Giants on Thursday. He will miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return.

Via ProFootballTalk.com, Lawrence has a Lisfranc injury in his right foot and may need up to eight weeks to recover. He has three of Dallas’ eight sacks so far this season.

Micah Parsons has one of those sacks too. The former All-Pro is also shaky to play against the Steelers this week thanks to an ankle sprain.

Many moves

Via a post at Steelers.com, Tuesday was a day full of roster moves for the franchise.

Offensive lineman Max Scharping was signed off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad to Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster. General manager Omar Khan also signed linebacker Eku Leota and running back La’Mical Perine to the practice squad.

Perine had been with the team in the preseason, and Leota has nine games of experience under his belt as a former Carolina Panther.

Correspondingly, the organization placed guard James Daniels on the Reserve/Injured List because of his Achilles injury suffered Sunday in Indianapolis. The front office also released defensive backs Jalen Elliott and Darius Rush along with fullback Jack Colletto and linebacker Marcus Haynes (practice squad).

As TribLive first reported, the Steelers worked out former Arizona, Baltimore and Buffalo receiver Andy Isabella on Tuesday morning. His brother Joey is a wide receiver at Duquesne.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2 in Houston, the Steelers also worked out Josh Ali (WR), Yvandy Rigby (LB), Thomas Rush (LB), Kyle Sheets (WR/Slippery Rock), Zeke Vandenburgh (LB) and Craig Young (LB).

Preseason payoff

Former Penguin Zach Aston-Reese is now on his fourth team since leaving Pittsburgh. His latest stop is in Las Vegas.

Aston-Reese made a good impression during a preseason game Tuesday, scoring twice for the Golden Knights as they beat the Colorado Avalanche, 6-1.

Since his departure from the Pens, Aston-Reese has had stops in Anaheim, Toronto and Detroit.

Another former Penguin, Tanner Pearson, also scored for Vegas.

The Golden Knights have now won three of four preseason games. As for the Penguins, they fell at home to the Detroit Red Wings, 2-1, on Tuesday. That makes them 2-3 in the preseason.
