Tymere Alston won his heat during the WPIAL Class 3A track championships at Slippery Rock University, but it wasn’t enough to help the Penn Hills track team extend its streak of having athletes at the state championships.

Alston finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 59.33 seconds. Indiana’s Liam Templeton won the event with a time of 1:55.60.

“He ended up just missing out on how to go to states,” Penn Hills coach Lee Zelkowitz said. “There were two heats in the 800, and he was in the slower heat. He won it easily. He ran a great race. He led from start to finish. Because of the conditions, his time wasn’t what it should have been.”

The Indians had one other athlete drop out of the WPIAL meet because of illness. Zelkowitz said he was happy overall with how the spring went.

“We had a rotten spring weather-wise,” Zelkowitz said. “It wasn’t great weather. One day, the weather was good, then it was either raining or cold. These kids fought through the adversity.”

Comeback kid?

Could former Penn Hills star Aaron Donald be making a return to the NFL?

Donald texted Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report, indicating he is considering a comeback to the NFL.

Apparently, Los Angeles making a blockbuster trade to acquire former Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett got Donald thinking about a return to the gridiron.

How serious Donald is about the idea clearly remains to be seen, but Rams coach Sean McVay later commented he would be happy to see the 35-year-old return to action. (Why wouldn’t he?)

Donald, who migrated with the Rams to Los Angeles from St. Louis, recorded 111 sacks in 10 seasons before retiring following the 2023 season. Along the way, Donald was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times by the Associated Press.

Donald helped the Rams reach the Super Bowl twice. He recorded two sacks in the Rams’ 23-20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

Consider at least one interested observer skeptical of the idea.

“Y’all are hilarious,” Donald’s wife, Erica, posted on social media after comeback talk began to spread.

Robbins picks Westminster

Jadon Robbins, a two-time all-section selection for the Penn Hills boys soccer program, chose to attend Westminster College to play soccer.

Robbins, a 6-foot-7 goalkeeper, also was named an all-conference selection by the Big 56.
