Summer in Pennsylvania means one thing: road work.

In the Penn-Trafford community, several major local and state projects are set to begin this summer that will affect daily commutes.

Route 4041 (Denmark Manor Road) between the Manor Valley Golf Course entrance and Harrison City Export Road in Penn Township has been closed since May 4 for a $750,000 infrastructure investment project, according to a news release from PennDOT.

The Department Force Bridge crew will demolish the existing structure and replace it. A detour will be in place until the end of July using Denmark Manor Road, Harrison City Export Road and Blank Road.

At the local level, Penn Township will start its 2026 hot mix paving project toward the end of summer. The work will cost about $2.1 million and repave 9.6 miles of road, according to township manager Mary Perez. This project will impact portions of 40 roads in the township.

Also happening later this summer is the Pleasant Valley Road Reconstruction Project, which will include stormwater work, road stabilization, road reconstruction and new guide rails.

The township was also awarded a grant to repave the remainder of the Penn Township Municipal Park that was not completed in 2025. The project will occur at the end of summer. Perez said roads will not be shut down for an extended period of time.

Nearby in Manor Borough, crews will begin their annual street paving project in June.

The project’s tentative schedule runs from June 15 through June 26 and will include work on Harding Street, Westmoreland Avenue, Shady Avenue, Elm Street and Brush Street. The bid for the project was about $119,000.

“These streets we’re paving right now have not been done for quite some time,” said Joe Lapia, Manor Borough manager.

Meanwhile, Penn Borough and Trafford Borough’s schedules are clear of road work projects for the year, according to Penn Borough council President Randy Dreistadt and Trafford Borough manager Diana Alberter.
