Richard A. "Gunny" Guenther Sr., 72, of Lower Burrell, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, in his home. He was born in Tarentum Aug. 22, 1950, to the late James H. Guenther Sr. and Ollie P. Adams Guenther and was a lifelong resident of the local area. Mr. Guenther was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army 101st Airborne Division, where he was a helicopter pilot under the Black Widow call sign. He was the owner and operator of both Appraisals by Gunny as well as Gunny's Lounge, Arnold. He also worked in the exploration division for Gulf Research. He was a member of the New Kensington Eagles, Tarentum VFW, Lower Burrell American Legion 868 and the Slovak Club in Creighton. He enjoyed golfing, bar hopping, yearly vacation to the Golden Sands in Ocean City, Md., with his late wife, kids and grandkids and was an avid Steelers fan. He is survived by his three children, Richard Guenther Jr., of Central City, Jarret (Cindy) Guenther, of Schellsburg, and Melissa (Chuck) Hawk, of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Renae, Tanner, Jackson, Colton, Ashley, Storm, Shana, Ella and Austin; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Raelynn and Kingsly; brother, James "Jimmy G" Guenther; and sister, Donna Lang, both of New Kensington. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Arabia Guenther, on May 9, 2020.
