Larry 'Kim' Hart passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones at the VA hospice in Aspinwall, PA. Born and raised in Greensburg, PA, Kim was preceded in death by mother, Fern M. Hart, and father, Maurice F. Hart. Survived by daughter, Maureen 'Marnie' Hart; son-in-law, Wayne 'Sonny' Plummer of N.C; brother, John Eagan of DeLand, FL; cousins, George Hart, Renee Hill (Tim), Trish Fite, Aunt Lilyan (Sis) Kriss and many other cousins. He loved his family and friends more than anything in the world. Except for rum and coke, books, football, M.A.S.H., Jeopardy, and kitty cats. Kim was an army draftee in 1969, serving during the Vietnam War as grunt infantry and commissioned artillery officer, and was discharged in April 1971 as a 1st Lieutenant. He entered the military a clean-cut beatnik and left a full-fledged hippie. Kim quickly went on to earn a Master's degree in Political Science from Duquesne University, cementing a lifetime pleasure in debate. Political debate never paid the bills, but many years as a construction superintendent at the CIA and other government entities did. This led to a fulfilling career in architecture with Bucher-Myers until his retirement in 2008. With a flair for the dramatic, Kim put this skill to work by acting in over 20 plays with community theaters in Maryland. Acting was one of his greatest pleasures. Anyone who knew Kim would say he had a brilliant mind, was a stubborn rebel, and held a deep love of reading (even volunteering at the Greensburg library for several years). Quick-witted, he'd quote things verbatim that he'd read decades prior. A talent he shared with his mother, Fern, was a profound interest in writing including poetry and plays. One significant play, 'Bumps in the Road,' documented his father's dementia with intellect, humor, and sentimentality. His writing was irreverent, humorous, and poignant. Kim loved passionately and was loved deeply in return. In some of his final musings, he wrote that he wanted us to know that he was just playing with this thing called 'life and death.' Lift a well rum and coke in a toast to Kim. We hold a sincere debt of gratitude to VA healthcare in Pittsburgh, especially Oncology and Hospice, who provided exceptional and compassionate care while he navigated AML.
