The track at Plum Middle School has been repaired and reopened.
Crews recently finished extending the circuit to eliminate the overlap between the track and a corner of the school’s football field that has long plagued the pitch.
Penn Hills-based Palombo Landscaping, Inc. recently wrapped up their work at the track, which cost the district a little more than $50,000.
The track remained closed for several weeks during construction but officially reopened Monday, according to Plum Finance and Operations Director John Zahorchak.
The grass surface surrounding the track remains closed, however, as contractors “seed and prepare” the area, according to a district social media post.
For now, the track surface remains asphalt, but Zahorchak said the district will consider whether to add a cushioned surface to the circuit this fall.
The modifications to the track are a comparatively small portion of $30 million renovations to the middle school and an addition at Plum’s O’Block Elementary School.
Construction work is ongoing at the middle school, mainly focused on replacing the school’s roof and modifying its front entrance area.
