Sewickley Academy students and staff were all about giving during the annual Spirit of Community Food Drive hosted on campus from Nov. 4-18.

Thanksgiving-themed food items and monies were collected and two vans were loaded Nov. 20 with food and delivered to The Good Samaritan Church and Food Pantry (a part of St. Luke the Evangelist Church) in Ambridge.

The event was organized by SA alumnus Derek Chimner, who serves as director of diversity, equity and inclusion at the school.

Additionally, a check for $2,300 was delivered to the pantry to help with the purchase of roasting pans and other food supplied for local families in need.

“It benefits the Ambridge area, and we were able to purchase 40 turkeys to go along with the donated food,” Chimner said.

Nine students volunteered to help with the delivery, and last year’s food drive helped more than 50 local families.
