Shamrock and Roll
Time for weekend two of Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s new festival, The Thaw. Shamrock and Roll will be a multi-day celebration of Irish culture and music in Downtown this weekend.
Enjoy libations with whiskey tastings and a Pub on the Square in Market Square. The festival’s “Lounge” will feature themed cocktails, local brews and plenty of Guinness and Harp. Don’t miss music from some of Pittsburgh’s best Celtic bands, including The Low Kings on Saturday night; and Rich Patrick Trio, Bealtaine and Z Town Street Band on Sunday.

Spring Community Day
At the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Downtown Pittsburgh, Saturday will bring their Black in Bloom Spring Community Day.
This community day will include live DJ sets, a vendor market, performances and activities by artists and different resources groups and photo opportunities. Activities including yoga, Zumba, art making and seed planting will be sprinkled throughout the day. There will even be a tea bar.

Pi Day Party
There’s more to celebrate than St. Patrick’s Day this weekend — for you math nerds out there, March 14 is Pi Day. The Carnegie Science Center on the North Shore will be throwing a party, and yes, there will be pie.
This 21 Night will have live music, themed cocktails, science demonstrations, a pizza dough acrobat and pub-style trivia. Plus, explore the Science Center after hours. And for the truly adventurous, there will be a pie-eating contest.

Family Purim Carnival
The Jewish holiday of Purim falls this weekend, and a fun family festival will be held Sunday at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill to celebrate.
The carnival will include a DJ a photo booth, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, a bounce castle, carnival games and more. Treats will be on hand for purchase. There will be bonuses for anyone wearing a costume, as is traditional for the holiday.
Entry for each child is $10, or $40 for a family of four or more. The fun will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Kaufmann Building at the Squirrel Hill Jewish Community Center. Learn more at jccpgh.org.
Alton Brown
Food Network star Alton Brown is heading to the Benedum Center in Downtown Pittsburgh Sunday for a fascinating foodie talk. After decades of time on culinary television, Brown has developed quite the repertoire of stories and recipes — and he’s sharing them on his “Last Bite” tour.
This show will have a variety of entertaining songs, indispensable kitchen hacks and delicious storytelling. Brown has always brought humor to his shows, and this will be no exception.
