Raymond W. Patrick, 96, of Crabtree, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital. Born March 27, 1928, in Crabtree, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Uhrin) Patrick. Ray was an active member of St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree, where he sang in the funeral and men's choirs. He also attended the Latin Mass at Holy Family Church. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Latrobe Die Casting. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Army as a Paratrooper with the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment 'Rakkasans' in the 101st Airborne Division. For 28 years, he remained with the Special Forces for a total of 34 years, military service. He was a life member of Crabtree Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid Polka fan. He also loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of Ray's most memorable accomplishments was earning his high school diploma at age 90, in 2018, from Greensburg Salem. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Richard, James, Donald, and John Patrick; and three sisters, Mary Salandro, Patricia Diebold, and Dolores Davis. Ray is survived by his wife, Margaret 'Peggy' (Zahoransky) Patrick of Crabtree; one daughter, Kathryn A. Jakub, and her husband, Paul, of Quakertown; one grandson, Blake Patrick Jakub; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bartholomew Church, Crabtree, with the Rev. Justin Matro, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 33, Greensburg.
