Richard T. 'Dick' Hood, 100, of Murrysville, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024, at his home. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923, in Baden, PA, son of the late William and Ella (Marr) Hood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Mitsch) Hood; a brother, William (Agnes) Hood; and a sister, Ruth (Jack) McCabe. Richard was a Private 1st Class in the 2nd Division, 10th Marines serving for three and a half years during World War II. He fought in the battles of Tinian, Saipan, and Okinawa, receiving a Purple Heart at the Battle of Saipan. After the war, Richard graduated from Thiel College and then worked for 40 years as a research chemist at Kopper's Company, where he had patents for rubber and wood adhesives, including one which was used in Michelin, Bridgestone, and Firestone tires. He was a member of Christ's Lutheran Church, Murrysville and over the years had served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and council member. He was a kind and patient man who kept a positive outlook through his entire life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed by all. Richard is survived by three children, Marilyn Davis, Janine (Mark) Dreibelbis, Jim (Leslie) Hood; six grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Davis, Jill (Chris) Fugate, Becky (Vincent) Mazzei, Brian (Elizabeth) Dreibelbis, Ashley Hood DiazGranados, Courtney (Zac) Hood; 12 great-grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Alexander, Lukas, Colton, Zachary, Evelyn, Jonah, Emma, Nathan, Lily, and Lyla. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Meinert, and numerous nieces and nephews. Entrusted with arrangements is HART FUNERAL HOME, INC., Murrysville.
