James R. Carney, 80, of Washington Township, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Quality Life Services-Apollo. A son of the late William James Carney and Sara Alberta Carney, he was born April 21, 1943, in Edmon, PA. James was a 1961 graduate of Vandergrift High School. He worked for Allegheny Ludlum in West Leechburg for 34 years, retiring as the foreman of the instrument repair shop. He was of the Protestant faith. James was an automobile enthusiast who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, golfing, and especially spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, F. Marian (Grantz) Carney of Washington Township; sons, Robert 'Bob' Carney (MiMi) of Washington Township, Matthew Carney (Hilde Jensen) of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Sandra Mackintosh (Dan) of Derry; five grandchildren, William, Mathilde, Mathias, Jacob, Joseph; two great-grandchildren; special nephew, James Oliver Carney (Karen) of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his siblings; Vivian Riggle, Margaret Michalakis, William Carney, Beryl Carney, Oliver Carney, Leverne Sullivan, Dewayne Sullivan; a granddaughter, Elisabeth Carney; and a special niece, Lucille Gadd. Friends will be welcomed by his family on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Todd R. Pugh officiated. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
