Millvale Police have arrested a borough teenager suspect of bringing a semiautomatic gun aboard a Shaler Area School District bus last week, according to Shaler police.
Millvale police Chief Tim Komoroski said his department worked closely with their counterparts in Shaler to arrest the 16-year-old, whom they did not identify, on Saturday.
The school district said in a statement released on Sunday that it will continue its own review and will follow the schools’ code of student conduct, “applying all applicable laws and consequences to the fullest extent possible.”
On Jan. 30, Shaler school resource officers were notified that a high school student was allegedly in possession of a gun while riding home on the bus. By Jan. 31, the student had been identified and removed from school pending further investigation, according to a joint statement issued by the school district and both police departments.
The school district also is conducting a review of security protocols, including enhanced screening measures as a result of this incident, the statement said.
The teen will be turned over to the Allegheny County Juvenile authorities, police said.
