Ralph Paul Shellhammer, 75, of North Apollo, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in Erie, Pennsylvania. Born Feb. 16, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Ralph L. Shellhammer and Patricia J. (Raub) Shellhammer. Ralph was a 1967 graduate of Apollo High School and served our country for 26 years in the United States Navy. During his service, he served on over eight naval vessels and at nine naval station assignments throughout the United States and one overseas in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After his U.S. Naval retirement in 1996, Ralph worked at Hanson Gravel Company in New Kensington for 18 years, retiring in 2015. Ralph was an active member of the Washington Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church and was an instrumental member. Ralph and his wife, Wendy, enjoyed spending time with their family and many weekends at the family camp. Ralph loved cars and enjoyed working on them. He loved hunting and he loved traveling while in the Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John E. Shellhammer. Ralph is survived by his wife, Wendy (Moore) Shellhammer; son, Brandon (Michelle) Shellhammer; daughters, Heather Holmes, Kaley (Tim) Zundel; grandchildren, Brenden (Katie) Shellhammer, Kyra Shellhammer, Ariel (Brendan) Cruzan, and Lyla Zundel; great-grandson, Gage Cruzan; his brother, Daniel (Mary) Shellhammer; brother-in-law, Tim (Kathy) Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at the Washington Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 1641 Washington Road, Apollo, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 3:15 p.m. with Catherine and Moses Sosegian officiating. Following the service, military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. The family invites you to stay for a meal in honor of Ralph following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph's memory to the following charities he supported annually in honor of fellow military veterans, Wounded Warrior, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust, and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
