Uno Pizzeria in Waterfront has closed

Uno Pizzeria and Grill, one of the original tenants at The Waterfront in Homestead, has baked its last pie.

A note on the Facebook page of the Boston-based chain said it is permanently closed. The Waterfront management office confirmed the restaurant has gone dark. Calls to the restaurant were unanswered Wednesday.

It was the only location in Western Pennsylvania for the chain that’s known for its Chicago-style pizza. The restaurant was founded in the Windy City in 1943.

The closure follows another in July, when Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery shuttered. When it opened 25 years ago, it was one of the few options for craft beer in Pittsburgh.

Over the past two years, the open-air shopping center has added other tenants. Shorty’s Tap x Taco, a retro taco bar concept, opened in the former Bar Louie space near the AMC Waterfront 22 movie theater. It’s a sister company of Burgatory, also in the center.

A new Chipotle restaurant opened this year at the former Steak ‘n Shake location.

The Waterfront, which sits on land once occupied by U.S. Steel’s Homestead Steel Works, opened in 1999. It houses specialty shops, restaurants, entertainment complexes, hotels, and retailers.
