A teenage boy was taken to an area hospital Friday night after falling through the roof of the shuttered Century III Mall in West Mifflin.
The boy fell about 20 feet at the former Macy’s store, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported. His condition was unknown.
Skyview Volunteer Fire Company (West Mifflin No. 4) reported it was dispatched to the mall just after 9 p.m. Friday to help West Mifflin police with a rescue and extrication of a patient. The fire company said it was unable to release any additional information about the incident.
It issued a plea for citizens to obey posted signs warning all to keep out of the mall property. It said in a Facebook post: “We can not emphasize it enough, this property is unsafe and a hazard to your health, please, you absolutely must stay off the property. Your curiosity is not worth you getting injured.”
Other details were unavailable from police.
Emergency crews extinguished a fire on the third floor of the former mall during the early hours of April 11.
The mall closed in 2019.
A condemnation hearing has been set for June 14 in West Mifflin Council chambers to examine the condition of the 1.3-million-square-foot building.
