William G. 'Bill' Ben, 81, of East Deer Township, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 5, 1942, in Rural Ridge, and was the son of the late John and Helen (Swaiko) Ben. Bill was an East Deer-Frazer High School Class of 1960 graduate. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War on the USS Lowe. After working as a shipping supervisor for 30 years at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries, Springdale, Bill retired in 2003. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish Harwick campus and the former Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Creighton, where he was an active volunteer and member of the choir. Bill was a longstanding member of the American Slovak Club in Creighton and Springdale Sportsmen Association. Known to many as 'Coach,' he enjoyed coaching little league baseball, was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, liked playing golf, and enjoyed the casino. Bill especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce (Frena) Ben; two sons, Scot D. (Gabriella) Ben of O'Hara Township and Kevin M. (Tracy) Ben of North Buffalo Township; six grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Garrett, Jayda, Molly, and Mackenzie Ben; and his brother, Robert (Diane) Ben of Rural Ridge. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2024, in the PAUL R. Parting prayers will begin in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in Our Lady of Victory Church, 1319 Low Grade Road, Harwick, PA 15049. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
