Welty T. Piper Sr., 95, of Jeannette, formerly of Derry, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Cook Township, a son of the late Wilson H. and Carrie Musnug Piper. Welty had been an independent truck driver and had retired from Latrobe Die Casting. He was a man who loved to tinker, was a jack of all trades and enjoyed motorcycles and cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, E. Louise Hofmann Piper; his brother, Ralph H. Piper; his sisters, Emma Wright, Jenny Griffin and Anna Gunter Rice; and a granddaughter, Amber Piper. He is survived by his son, Tom Piper (Paula) of Jeannette; two grandchildren, Paul Piper (Samantha) and Faith Sobol (Gordon); and four great-grandchilden, Madalin and Paul Piper Jr., Sydney, and Eli Sobol (Paps special buddy). Friends will be received Tuesday, from 1 to 2 p.m., in the MCCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. Interment will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery.
