<p>During a special meeting on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Board of Directors of the West Jefferson Hills School District appointed Ashley Malley to the board, serving for a term until December 2025. The appointment comes following the resignation of board member Chelsea Campolongo who recently moved out of the district. </p> <p>Malley, a 2004 TJ alumna, works as a talent acquisition manager for Aspen Dental and is married with two children, ages four and two. Malley is a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hills. Malley told the board that she applied to ensure that her children and all students in the district have the same positive education experience that she did in the West Jefferson Hills School District.</p> <p>The district advertised for community members interested in serving on the board of directors to submit a letter of application and resume for consideration. In the letter, applicants were asked to detail the skills and experience they would bring to the board, the reasons for wanting to join the board, two key issues that the individual would want to address as a board member, and any volunteer service in the school district or community. Eligible applicants had to be 18 years or older, possess good moral character, and must have resided in the West Jefferson Hills School District for at least one year prior to the appointment. School board members are volunteers and are not paid for their service.</p> <p>Malley will be sworn in at a school board meeting in August.</p> <p>Also at its July 23 meeting, the board of directors hired Mark Mariani as the district's director of facilities. Mariani most recently worked as an assistant director of operations with the City of Pittsburgh. He graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in public administration.</p> <p>The next scheduled meeting of the West Jefferson Hills School District Board of Directors will be a committee of the whole meeting at 6 p.m. and a work session/voting meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 at Thomas Jefferson High School. Its next scheduled regular meeting will be Tuesday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m.</p>

<p>Elliot Oliphant of South Park was crowned Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA on June 29th. </p> <p> </p> <p>"It was truly a dream come true to stand on that stage with so many amazing, intelligent, and beautiful young women from around the state," Oliphant said. </p> <p> </p> <p>Now she will get to take her crown to Los Angeles and compete for the national title of Miss Teen USA. </p> <p> </p> <p>Elliot is a 2023 South Park High School graduate, where she was an honors student and a varsity athlete competing in track, unified bocce and volleyball. Most recently, she finished her first year at Shippensburg University as a psychology major and a criminal justice minor, making the Dean's List as a freshman. In addition, she is a member of the women's volleyball team and high jumps for the track and field team - earning a spot on the podium in this year's conference championship and being named one of only two dual sport Scholar Athletes at Shippensburg.</p> <p> </p> <p>Elliot actively volunteers with a number of organizations but has consistently worked with Pittsburgh CAT & Homeless Cat Management since the age of 12 to help control the cat population in the area. </p> <p> </p> <p>In the future, Elliot's goal is to join the FBI, having participated in Allegheny County Camp Cadet, earning the title of Female Cadet of the Year for 2014 and entry into Honors Camp in 2015. </p> <p> </p> <p>The two day Miss Teen USA competition is July 31 and August 1, with the final show on August 1 being broadcast live on the CW.
