A woman in a motorized wheelchair was taken by ambulance for hospital treatment after being struck by a city garbage truck Friday in Pittsburgh. The woman, who suffered a "serious compound leg fracture,” was alert and talking after the crash, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Cara Cruz. The collision happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Brownsville Road. Melissa Goldinger told TribLive news partner WTAE she and a friend rushed to the scene when her mother, 60-year-old Donna Goldinger, called her immediately after the collision. Pittsburgh police are investigating. Per protocol, the truck driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing and will be placed on desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation, Cruz said.
