Carrick fire sends resident, 3 firefighters to hospital

A resident and three firefighters were injured in a blaze that broke out Sunday at a commercial and residential building in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood.

Pittsburgh firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Brownsville Road just before 7:10 p.m. One man was rescued from a second floor apartment and transported to a local hospital, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Three firefighters were also transported to a hospital because of heat exhaustion.

Crews battled hoarding conditions while putting out the fire in the building’s residential portion, Public Safety said.


2 women injured in Lawrenceville shooting

One woman was shot in the chest and another was grazed on the arm during a shooting early Monday in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood.

Pittsburgh police were notified just before 4 a.m. that a woman was dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. She had been transported there via a personal vehicle, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The woman was in critical condition but told officers the incident occurred near the intersection of 42nd and Butler streets.

Police said they were later notified that a second woman was dropped off at a different hospital in stable condition with a graze wound on her arm. The witness who drove her to the hospital said they had come from 42nd and Butler streets.

Both women are in their 20s, according to Public Safety.

Police are also searching for a third woman who may have been involved in the shooting.

Witnesses told police the women were having an argument in a nearby business before moving outside where the shooting occurred.

The city’s Violent Crime Unit is investigating the incident. Crime unit detectives processed evidence at the scene.


Picklesburgh vendors report thefts

Two vendors at the Picklesburgh festival in Downtown Pittsburgh reported thefts of cash and valuables around 7 p.m. Sunday night.

One vendor said she left a backpack containing her cash sales from the festival in an unlocked vehicle in the 200 block of Boulevard of the Allies while packing up her stall, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety. It was missing when she returned to the vehicle.

A second vendor said they left a bag containing cash and other valuables unattended in the 100 block of Boulevard of the Allies while packing up their stall, Public Safety said.

Police are checking video available in the area to assist with the investigation.
