Matthew Samuel Caracciolo, 94, of Gilpin Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Old Forge, PA, and raised in Bloomfield, to the late Matteo and Mary (Alviani) Caracciolo. Matthew was a 1949 graduate of Schenley High School and a veteran of the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany as a cook. After his military service, he married his late wife, Shirley Jean Reese, and raised four children. He was employed as a craneman by U.S. Steel in Homestead for over 30 years until retiring in 1980. He will be remembered most for the love of his family, gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing, as well as a great sense of humor. Survivors include his daughters, Lisa McCoy of Gilpin Twp. and Linda Williams of IA; son, Matthew Caracciolo (Bridget) of IA; granddaughters, Jamie Overholt (Nelson) of IA and Tara Ronian (Jake) of Gilpin Twp.; grandson, Juan Caracciolo of IA; great-grandson, Caleb Weston of IA; brothers, Lewis (Anna May), Vincent, Alfred (Ruth), and Anthony (Philomena) Caracciolo; two very dear friends, Myrna of IA and Roxann Fox of McKeesport; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen James Caracciolo; a brother, Larry; sisters, Sara Webb, Josephine Wagner, and Amelia White; and sons-in-law, Ken McCoy and Steve Williams.
