Richard M. Karas, 83, of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born July 1, 1941, a son of the late Mary (Lula) and Matthew Karas. He was a graduate of distinguished honors from Greensburg Salem High School. He went on to earn his journeymen's paper in tool and die making. He was a tool and die maker all his life, retiring as President of the former Hills Church Tool and Die. When he was younger, he loved to deer hunt in Western Pennsylvania, and Centre County. His hunting adventures took him to Colorado, Montana, British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. He loved to go on ocean cruises and visit various casinos all over the United States with his wife. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Hicks; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mofalda and Guy Elda; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Ungvarsky and Mary Ann Cantrell; and niece, Michelle Ungvarsky. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet (Elda) Karas; brothers-in-law, John Ungvarsky, Don Gimpel, and James Elda; nieces, Lauren Ruff (Nick), Kathleen Love, DeAndra Hicks, and Catie Ritchey Perez (Jose); nephews, Michael Ungvarsky, and Connor Ritchey (Alexis); sister-in-law, Louise Elda; and many cousins. A prayer service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, followed by visitation until 1 p.m. A luncheon will immediately follow the visitation.
