LGBTQ Pride Month is almost here, and with it, numerous events and festivals are coming to Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
The yearly, monthlong celebration in June honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point in the Gay Liberation Movement, according to the Library of Congress.
Many locals might be familiar with Pittsburgh Pride’s festivities, but there are other, more local, Pride events taking place as well. Information about Pittsburgh Pride, which starts at the end of May, can be found on the event’s website.

“We recognize that visibility is crucial in raising awareness and increasing acceptance about identities that have been historically marginalized,” the event organizers said online.
This year, Pride Millvale has a record number of vendors joining the event, organizers said, as well as eight hours of live entertainment on the main stage in GAP Park — featuring more than 40 local musicians and drag performers. There will also be a dedicated sensory friendly space and activities for the whole family, they said.
