Ronald W. Zimmerman passed away unexpectedly at his childhood home on Oct. 9, 2024. Ron was born Sept. 25, 1960, to the late Richard W. Zimmerman and Thelma J. Hoffman Zimmerman. Ron's loving wife, Maria, was by his side at the time of his passing. Ron attended A.W. Beattie and graduated from Fox Chapel High School in 1978. He went on to work as an engineer at several nuclear power plants across the country. Later, Ron changed careers and was currently working as a day trader. Growing up in Indianola, Ron developed a love for hunting and fishing, following in the footsteps of his father and older brother. Ron loved spending time at the family's cabin in Guitonville, PA, with family and friends. Ron married Pam Sullivan in 1986 and his oldest son, Zachary Zimmerman, was born in 1988. Ron married Grace Lee-Zimmerman in 1992. During their 25 years of marriage, his second son, Eric Zimmerman, was born in 1997. In 2019, Ron met the love of his life, Maria Joy Umbi Zimmerman, and moved to the Philippines, before bringing her back to the United States, to be married in 2023. Though their time together was short, they lived life to the fullest, traveling and treasuring the time spent together. While at the Philippines, he earned the love and respect of the adults of the T'Boli village and was fondly known as 'Sir Ron.' He loved making the children happy and dressed up as the first Santa Claus they met, while handing out bags of candy to the children. He was then known as Santa Claus to the children, even when he wasn't in his Santa suit. This is just one example of the love, kindness, and generosity he shared with all who were blessed to know him. Ron had a personality that was bigger than life. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to light up an entire room with his bright smile. Ron will always be remembered for his unconditional love constantly shown to and felt by family and friends. He always wanted to lend a helping hand and would give the shirt off his back to those in need. His selflessness and generosity were felt by all who knew him. Ron will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Maria Joy Umbi Zimmerman; two children, Zachary of N. Augusta, SC, and Eric of Atlanta, GA; siblings, brother, Richard (Teresa); sister, Donna (Samuel) Zanger; and nieces, Chelsea Zanger and Miranda Zimmerman. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m., and 5 until 6:30 p.m. Funeral services begin 6:30 at CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME, 1607 Pittsburgh St., Cheswick, PA 15024. A funeral reception "Wake" will be held at Clyde and Patti's Lounge immediately following the evening viewing.
