Members of the high school Black Student Union visited Wilkins today to share some Black History Month lessons with our first and second graders.

This year's theme for Black History Month is African Americans and the Arts. The visitors from the Black Student Union BSU shared lots of interesting information about Black musicians, authors, actors, painters, and other creative people who have made an impact on our world.

The Black Student Union (BSU) is an organization that allows Black students and their allies the space to have empowering and uplifting discussions as well as the space to be heard. It is an organization that supports Black people and affirms our culture. It's a family.

The Black Student Union (BSU) at Duquesne University was organized with the purpose of focusing on the campus's ethnic composition with the objective to bring about open communication and interaction with all Black students.

The students shared some examples of art, music and dance, and even got some of our classes up and moving!

"My niece came home especially excited to discuss meeting the students that spoke with them in her classroom. She couldn't wait to tell the family what she had learned. I love how much she is enjoying school and advancing her knowledge," Shantaya Wilkins said.

Thanks to the Black Student Union for engaging with our students today.
