Verna Louise (McElwee) Borst, 84, of Pittsburgh, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. She was born on Nov. 11, 1939, in Pitcairn, a daughter of the late William Boyd and Isabel Louise (Clagett) McElwee and was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Borst; sisters, Janice Isherwood and Nora McElwee; and brother-in-law, David Hale. Verna was a graduate of Pitcairn High School, Class of 1957, a member of Allegheny Center Alliance Church, and volunteered for many years with local hospices. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling and painting. In her younger years, she was a fashion model. Verna was kind-hearted and always willing to help anyone in need. She is survived by her children: Steve (Melissa) Borst of Elizabeth Township, Scott Borst (Sharon Munek) of Irwin, and Angie Hicks of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Bridgette (David) Ombres, Brett (Miranda) Borst, and Lexi Borst; great-grandchildren, Brielle Ombres and Brenzlo Borst; brother and sister William Boyd (Karen) McElwee Jr. and June Hale; special friend Evelyn Woodard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main St., Irwin, PA 15642. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
