Ronald E. Ziencik, 87, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024. He was born on May 23, 1937, to the late Paul and Evelyn Yute Ziencik and was a lifelong resident of the valley. Mr. Ziencik proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as part of the 101st Airborne Division during the late 1950s, where he was involved in the early experimentation and development of helicopter operations, a pivotal advancement for the military. After his honorable discharge, he began a remarkable 56-year career with PPG Industries. During the late 1960s, Ron worked on the UNIVAC I, one of the first commercial computers using punch cards for data processing marking his role in the early era of computer technology at PPG. His lifelong passion for technology and learning fueled his work at PPG, where his career included extensive business travel throughout Europe. Ron had the opportunity to visit Italy, Germany, France, and England, immersing himself in the culture and furthering his professional development. Ron also cherished his personal travels, especially with family most of all. Often traveling with his wife, Donna; son, Sean; and granddaughter, Carleigh. He also loved to vacation with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. His greatest joy was visiting Disney World with his beloved wife, Donna. They made many trips to Disney together over the years, creating cherished memories as they enjoyed the magic and wonder of the park. For Ron, these visits weren't just vacations; they were moments of joy, relaxation, and love shared with his wife, and he held those experiences close to his heart. A man of many passions, Ron had a deep love for nature, gardening, and flowers. He found peace and joy intending to his garden, spending countless hours nurturing vegetables and flowers. His love for nature was evident in the care he put into every bloom, and he found solace in the wonder of God's creation. Ron was also an avid sportsman. He was the starting left fielder for Hubby's USSA softball team, helping lead the team to victory in the 1969 World Championship in Toledo, OH. An avid golfer, Ron spent countless hours on the golf course, enjoying the sport with friends and family. A devout Christian, Ron was a dedicated member of Harvest Baptist Church. He also served as an elder and deacon at First Baptist Church of New Kensington. His passion for reading, writing, and teaching the Bible was evident throughout his life, as he touched many lives through his deep faith and devotion. Ron is survived by his son, Sean Ziencik, of Gibsonia; his beloved granddaughter, Carleigh Ziencik; his brother, Glenn Ziencik, of Springdale; and his sister, Donna Planavsky, of Springdale. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Smith Ziencik; and his sister, Joyce McCartney. Friends and family will be received on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., at The CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
