A preseason road game against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena was postponed Saturday night because of problems with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ team plane, the team said in a statement.

The game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday in Detroit.

“Continued mechanical issues with our team plane were not able to be rectified, and despite great effort, there was no method to travel to Detroit safely,” the statement read. “We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to all fans, media, officials and the Red Wings who were already at Little Caesars Arena.”

Unlike the regular season, NHL teams typically travel the day of road games during the preseason. The Penguins staged a morning skate Saturday in Cranberry then embarked to Detroit.

The Penguins are scheduled to play the Ottawa Senators in a preseason game at 7 p.m. Sunday in Sudbury, Ontario, as part of the NHL’s Hockeyville promotion.
