In the decade since “Gooseâ€? Goslin retired as a broadcaster and sports director for KDKA Radio, he operated a Christmas tree farm and sold advertising and real estate. But his heart remained in broadcasting, said his daughter, Jennifer Goslin, 20. Marvin L. “Gooseâ€? Goslin of Scott died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, after suffering a heart attack. He was 64. “Dad tried a lot of different things, but every single time, he would say his one true love is broadcasting,â€? said Goslin, a senior studying communications at West Virginia University. “He took me to the station a few times when I was little, and when I told him that I was getting involved in broadcasting at college, he said, ‘Just so you know, I’m not forcing you to do that.’ But he really was tickled pink that it was something I want to do.â€? Mr. Goslin wrote a weekly column for the Tribune-Review from 1992 to 2005. Mr. Goslin entered Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1967 as a music major but switched to history and English during his second year. He worked at radio stations in a number of smaller markets before landing a position in 1981 doing sports and basketball play-by-play at KQV Radio in Pittsburgh. Mr. Goslin joined KDKA Radio in 1983 as the morning sports anchor and was a member of the top-rated “K-Teamâ€? with John Cigna and Fred Honsberger. “Like the other members of the K-Team, Goose Goslin stood out because he not only could button down all the facts and be informative, he was an entertaining character,â€? said Michael Young, senior vice president for CBS Radio Pittsburgh. “And the attributes and personality the public heard on the air were the same whether you were attending a meeting or going out for lunch with him,â€? Young said. Mr. Goslin was an accomplished vocalist who enjoyed singing at church and performed the national anthem prior to a number of Pirates and Penguins games, his daughter said. His final KDKA sports report was delivered as an opera. For the past seven years, Mr. Goslin devoted much of his time caring for his wife of 24 years, who has a brain tumor, his daughter said. The couple met when a KDKA listener — the former Shelley Massack — won a contest for a trip to Las Vegas to see a championship boxing match. As part of the promotion, Mr. Goslin went on the trip, introduced himself to Shelley and her mother, and took them to breakfast. They married in 1989. In addition to his wife, Shelley, and daughter, Jennifer, Mr. Goslin is survived by a brother, Robert L. Goslin of Irwin. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Warchol Funeral Home, 3060 Washington Pike in Bridgeville. Tony LaRussa is a staff writer for Trib Total Media.
