Share Share Share This week, Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is scheduled to be a full participant at a Wednesday practice for the first time this season, head coach Mike Tomlin said. "We'll see where that leads us," Tomlin said at his weekly news conference Tuesday. "First, we'll see if he's able to pull it off and get through the session — and if he does, what does the quality of that work look like? His ability to protect himself, etc." Wilson will work with the second team to avoid disrupting the preparation of Justin Fields, who has been the starter through the first five weeks, "and then we'll see where all of that leads us as we push through the week," Tomlin said. Tomlin says tomorrow will be the first Wednesday Russell Wilson will be scheduled to be a full participant at practice and they'll see what that looks like. He'll get reps with the second unit to not disrupt Fields' preparation for Sunday. Wilson has yet to make his Steelers regular-season debut as he recovers from a calf injury. "He's at the point of health now where we can work on a Wednesday without restrictions," Tomlin said. Tomlin was asked whether the Steelers are preparing as if Fields will start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, or if Wilson has an opportunity to be the starting quarterback in that game. "Until Russ gets to a point where we are comfortable with what we are looking at, he is able to execute all schematics, he is able to put together back-to-back consecutive days and so forth, I just think that is a hypothetical conversation," Tomlin said. "We will continue to push forward with Justin until those things are legitimate, and then we will make decisions accordingly."
