With Halloween around the corner, time is running out to come up with costume ideas for the festive occasion.
There’s still time to scramble, though.
From pop stars to superheroes, there are plenty of options for any age. Here’s a list of predicted popular costumes that will take to the streets Oct. 31.
Sabrina Carpenter
Perhaps the most popular Halloween costume this year will be pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, who is currently performing her Short n’ Sweet Tour. The tour features the tunes in Carpenter’s new album with the same title, which was released in late August and skyrocketed on the charts.
She’s known for her matching ensembles with glitter, high boots and heart cutouts. Renditions of her tour outfits are sure to be common this year.
Elphaba and Glinda
This witchy pair are characters in the musical “Wicked” in which they become friends. The Broadway hit has been made into a movie that opens in November.
Variations of these green and pink costumes are sure to be “Popular” this Halloween.
Kamala Harris, Donald Trump
With the 2024 presidential election occurring just days after Halloween night, there will definitely be politics-inspired costumes gracing the sidewalks looking for candy.
Ideas could be to go as Trump working at McDonald’s in his suit and tie, or Harris campaigning in her suit paired with Converse shoes.
For Pennsylvania-specific political figures, some may even choose to dress up as Gov. Josh Shapiro or Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey.
Brat
Though “brat summer” is officially over, it doesn’t mean the trend is any less popular.
The trend is inspired by British pop star Charli XCX’s album “Brat,” which was released June 7 and features a neon lime green cover with the word “brat” in blurry black lettering.
With the Charli XCX and Troye Sivan “Sweat Tour” across the country, neon lime green will be a favorite this year.
Pink Pony Club
Similar to the brat trend, many newfound Chappell Roan fans have hopped on the “Pink Pony Club” bandwagon, sporting pink cowboy hats and boots — as well as tons of sparkles.
The singer-songwriter had a meteoric rise in fame this summer, according to Pittsburgh fans, so it’s safe to say she’s here to stay.
Superheroes
Dressing up as your favorite superhero isn’t a new idea for Halloween, but since the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman came out in July, there will be a renewed interest in these characters.
Blake Lively’s Lady Deadpool and Channing Tatum’s Gambit are sure to be popular costumes as well.
ACOTAR
For the BookTok girlies, characters from the hit Sarah J. Maas series “A Court of Thorns and Roses” will be fan favorites this Halloween.
Expect some Feyre and Rhysand couples costumes, as well as some “bat boys” trios of Rhysand, Cassian and Azriel.
There might be some other BookTok-inspired costumes as well, such as Lily Bloom from the Colleen Hoover book turned into a movie “It Ends With Us,” which was released in August. Lively played Bloom in the film, wearing flowery outfits.
Challengers
Another popular movie released this year was “Challengers” in April — causing an uptick in tennis-related outfits.
It follows Tashi Donaldson, played by Zendaya, who coaches her husband into a grand slam champion. However, there’s a love triangle involved with characters Art Donaldson and Patrick Zweig, played by Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor.
It won’t be surprising if there are some trios dressed in similar tennis garb this year.
Other sports outfits could be costumes as well, such as Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in light of the new documentary, and Olympians such as Stephen Nedoroscik and Ilona Maher on “Dancing with the Stars.”
Return of classics
And what would the Halloween holiday be without some classic scary costumes like Ghostface from the Scream franchise or characters from “Beetlejuice” and the new sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” that was released this year?

Another option that seems to be gaining traction online is the Menendez brothers, following a recent Saturday Night Live skit that was not aired. Lyle and Erik Menendez spoke out in a Netflix documentary examining their crime of killing their parents in 1989. On top of the documentary, Netflix released the series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which revisits the trials and killings.
Both programs have renewed calls from many, including family members, to release the brothers from prison.
Spider-Man, Pitbull and the Minions are also returning favorites. It’s highly likely that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will make annual appearances as a couples costume as well.
According to Google Trends and Google’s annual Frightgeist site, the top 15 most-searched costumes so far this year include some of the Trib’s predicted contenders, USA Today reported.
