No post-big game hangover for the Pitt women’s volleyball team.
The No. 1-ranked Panthers followed up Friday’s five-set victory over ACC rival Louisville by defeating Notre Dame, 3-1 (25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19), on Sunday at Fitzgerald Field House. The win moved Pitt to 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the ACC.
Torrey Stafford led Pitt with 17 kills (hitting .438) and added 14 digs. Fellow sophomore Olivia Babcock added 15 kills and eight digs. Fifth-year Cat Flood, normally a serving specialist, had career highs with eight kills (.500) and eight digs while also adding another ace to her season total.
Senior setter Rachel Fairbanks had 47 assists, and senior libero/defensive specialist Emmy Klika had 19 digs.
Notre Dame (9-10, 2-8), coached by Penn Hills grad Salima Rockwell, was led by Morgan Gaerte’s 12 kills.
The Panthers, who will find out Monday afternoon if they maintained their No. 1 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, travel to Virginia next weekend for matches at Virginia (Friday) and Virginia Tech (Sunday).
