The dominoes are set to fall quickly in Penn State’s wide receiver room after another disappointing season. The Nittany Lions have added two transfers for 2025 in USC’s Kyron Hudson and Troy’s Devonte Ross. Now, one starter from 2024 is on his way out.
Junior receiver Omari Evans plans to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Evans had six starts but played in all 16 games, recording 21 receptions for 415 yards and five touchdowns. His production was second only to Harrison Wallace III.
Wallace finished his Penn State career with 38 games played, 30 receptions, 564 yards and seven touchdowns. He was a big-play threat throughout his three years, averaging 18.8 yards per catch.
James Franklin consistently praised Evans throughout 2024, calling the junior’s speed a “superpower ” and later identifying the wide receiver position as a new strength. Then, Penn State’s receivers finished the Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame without a catch.
Evans burned his redshirt as a freshman in 2022, as his speed and playmaking ability made him an enticing prospect. He was among the most-talked-about players entering his sophomore season, but the former high school quarterback then was buried in the depth chart and finished with just four catches.
A Killeen, Texas, native, perhaps Evans could search for a program closer to home as Penn State’s offensive makeover continues.
