Family-owned Nail Inc. in Sewickley has aimed to create a chill vibe with a cozy, home-like feel that is about more than pretty nails.

With a wall of shelves holding hundreds of bottles of nail polish and dip containers in bold and bright colors, tables adorned with half-circle strips of light, plus spa chairs with massage features and sparkling chandeliers, they’ve succeeded.

A bowl filled with chocolate at the front desk near the waiting area helps, too.

“It’s about helping people and getting to know them and creating relationships with them,” said Angie Leoun of Hampton, whose family owns the boutique. “We share life’s moments.”

The family has owned the business, in a former cigar shop on Beaver Street, for five years. Leoun’s husband, her sisters and a cousin work at the salon. They have other employees who feel like they are part of the family. It was the sisters’ father, Mai Nguyen, who heard the original space was available. He also has helped them refresh the place.

That includes a recently expanded room for an additional pedicure area and an updated, more spacious manicure area. The location is wonderful, Leoun said, because there is a lot of foot traffic. She said they have a lot of regular customers and are always welcoming new clients; they also take walk-ins.

“Angela is perfect at what she does,” said client Barbara Santacroce of Moon, whose eldest daughter told her about Nail Inc. Now, several family members get their nails done there. “My nails don’t crack. She’s a perfectionist.”

The services they provide include gel, dip and Gel X. A manicure starts at $25.

Leoun said the best compliment for her is when someone comments on a client’s manicure or pedicure because that helps get their name out there. This is the first nail business the family has owned. She and her sisters have worked at other salons. One of her sisters, Jen Nguyen, handles most of the intricate designs, such as ice cream cones, mermaids, fancy patterns and any holiday ideas like hearts for Valentine’s Day or shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day.

Pretty much anything you can think of, Nguyen can do, Leoun said. Nguyen is self-taught and learned some techniques from watching YouTube videos. Clients will show her an idea and she adds her own twist to the design, Leoun said.

“The Sewickley community is so nice,” Leoun said. “They keep us in the loop about what is happening, and we have felt so welcome since the first day we moved in.”
