The Cooper-Siegel Community Library and its Sharpsburg branch offer a variety of programming for visitors of all ages.

Registration is required for most programs as space is limited and some programs fill up quickly. In some cases, drop-ins are welcome as space permits.

Registration through the online calendar is encouraged when possible so staff members can plan accordingly. To register by phone, call the respective libraries at 412-828-9520 for Cooper-Siegel and 412-781-0783 for the Sharpsburg branch.

Regular operating hours at Cooper-Siegel Community Library, 403 Fox Chapel Road in Fox Chapel, are from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Regular operating hours at Sharpsburg Community Library, 1212 Main St., are from 1 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays; the branch is closed on Sundays. Parking is available at the library and the 13th Street Municipal Lot, which is metered. The library is accessible via Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s 91 and 1 bus routes — get off at 13th Street.

Both branches will be closed all day on Feb. 10.

Cooper-Siegel Community Library

All ages

• Lunar New Year Celebration, 2:30 p.m. Feb. 1

This annual celebration organized by the Asian community of the Fox Chapel area features a wide variety of festival activities. Final plans are still being made, but previous years have included traditional Chinese music performed by Dorseyville Middle School students, taekwondo performed by the Young Brothers Taekwondo School students, a dragon parade, storytelling, crafts, as well as treats and gifts. Kids

• Spanish & English Storytime (ages 3-5), 10:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 31

Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to participate in this playful storytime, held in both Spanish and English, with interactive books, rhymes and songs. This program occurs every Friday of the month. Please register separately for all dates you plan to attend.

• Chinese & English Bilingual Storytime (preschool-second grade), 10:30 a.m. Feb. 1

Explore the Chinese language through bilingual songs, books and playful experiences for children and their careviers. This program occurs on the first Saturday of the month. Please register for all dates you plan to attend.

Teens

• Crochet ’n Things (teens and adults), 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 30

Drop in on Thursdays to crochet, knit or do any other fun yarn craft. Finley will be on hand to teach you how to crochet. Supplies are provided or bring your own. The library receives donations of yarn on a regular basis and has extra crochet hooks and knitting needles to start you on your yarn journey.

Adults

• Local author series Community Ink: Christina Fisanick, 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5

“Pulling the Thread: Untangling Wheeling History” is a captivating collection of 34 essays by Dr. Christina Fisanick about her childhood beginnings in Moundsville, W. Va., to her return to Wheeling after earning a PhD. Fisanick’s journey through local, state, and national archives unfolds a tapestry of Wheeling’s rich past. Register online or by calling the library.

• Coffee with a Cop, 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 7

Stop by the library for coffee, donuts and conversation with the Fox Chapel Police. Drop-ins welcome as space permits.

Sharpsburg Community Library

All ages

• Heart-a-palooza, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 1

Heart-a-palooza is an all-ages drop-in program where we will create hearts with an assortment of art materials. Several stations will be set up and you can do 1 or all of them — or you can cozy up on the rug and read some books together. Stay for a little while or the whole time — it’s up to you.

Small children should be accompanied by a grown-up.

This staff-led program is free but donations are appreciated.

• Year of the Snake with the Pittsburgh Zoo (ages 5 to over 18), 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 5

2025 is the Year of the Snake. Celebrate and learn with some serpentine friends from the Pittsburgh Zoo in this educational family program. This program is geared for families with elementary-age children in grades K and up. Young children should be accompanied by a grown-up.

Live snakes will be present.

Kids

• Brain Food Book Tasting (first through fifth grade), 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3

Share your love of reading in our monthly book club for elementary students. Join Ms. Sara and other kid readers for a delectable spread of books to sample, savor and discuss. Each month we will have several curated tables, including picture books, chapter books and graphic novels.

• Story Supper (preschool), 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 3

Nurture your littlest reader’s mind and body with Story Supper, a monthly family literacy program in partnership with Fox Families Care. Every program includes creative play, a storytime with Ms. Alison and a nutritious meal. This program is geared for PreK children (2-5) and their caregivers. Siblings are welcome.

Registration is strongly encouraged so we know how much food to prepare. The program begins promptly at 6 p.m.. Please note that dinner is served at the end of the program.

Teens

• Anime Club, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 5

At the monthly Anime Club on the first Wednesday of the month, watch a new anime each time, learn beginner Japanese, draw manga characters, plan out or work on cosplay and more with Mr. Finley. For middle and high school students in grades 6-12.

Adults

• Senior Craft & Chat, 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 5

Bring a craft you’re working on or start a new project with Alison in this relaxed social program for senior adults. The program meets biweekly on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Supplies provided. We will make some special Valentines and chat a bit about heart health.
