As expected, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby was named as captain of Canada’s entry into the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off event.
Crosby is the NHL’s longest tenured active captain, having served in that role for the Penguins since 2007. He has also served as Canada’s captain in various international tournaments.
This season, Crosby has appeared in 53 games and has scored 55 points (16 goals, 39 assists) while averaging 20:19 of ice time per contest.
Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson was named as an alternate captain for Sweden.
Appearing in 53 games this season, Karlsson has scored 33 points (five goals, 28 assists) while clocking an average of 22:51 of ice time per contest.
The 4 Nations Face-Off is a tournament between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States that will be staged in Boston and Montreal between Feb. 12 and 20. It is largely serving as a replacement for the All-Star Game.
