West Virginia and the Big 12 released the Mountaineers’ 2025 football schedule Tuesday — the first in Rich Rodriguez’s second term as coach — and it includes two visits from Pittsburgh schools Robert Morris and Pitt.
There are six home dates at Milan Puskar Stadium, starting with Robert Morris in the opener Aug. 30. Then, after a trip to Ohio University on Sept. 6 (the teams’ first meeting since 2001), WVU will welcome Pitt to Morgantown for the 108th “Backyard Brawl.” The series with Pitt is WVU’s longest, with the Panthers holding a 63-41-3 advantage.
The game will be only the second time the schools have played in Morgantown since 2011.
After the three nonconference games, the Big 12 schedule kicks in Sept. 20 at Kansas.
The first Big 12 home game will be Sept. 27 against Utah, with the Utes making their first trip to Morgantown. It’s a rematch of the 2017 Heart of Dallas Bowl, a 30-14 Utah victory.
Before the open week Oct. 11, WVU visits Provo, Utah, and BYU on Friday, Oct. 3, for the first time. A string of four road games in five outings concludes Oct. 18 at UCF.
Then, it’s alternating home-and-road games, starting with TCU on Oct. 25 at Milan Puskar. The Mountaineers visit Houston on Nov. 1 and defending Big 12 champion Arizona State on Nov. 15. West Virginia hasn’t played the Sun Devils since a 43-42 victory in the 2015 Cactus Bowl.
The November home schedule includes Colorado on Nov. 8, an open date Nov. 22 and Texas Tech for the regular-season finale Nov. 29. It will be the first time WVU closes the season at home since 2018.
Missing from the Big 12 schedule are Arizona, Baylor, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
Times and TV information will be announced at a later date.
“The Big 12 is as tough as anywhere in the country,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “Our players and coaches know we have a lot of work to do in our winter conditioning, spring practices and summer camp to prepare for this year’s season.”
