Westmoreland County’s new register of wills and judge were sworn in to office Tuesday at the courthouse in Greensburg.
Jon Wian, 43, of Delmont, was installed as the head of the county row office where wills, estates, adoptions and guardianships are filed.
Both Wian and Common Pleas Court Judge Matt Schimizzi were nominated earlier this month by Gov. Josh Shapiro to fill vacancies at the courthouse. The state Senate last week confirmed both appointments.
Wian, a Republican, had served as chief of staff to Westmoreland County Commissioner Sean Kertes since 2020 and replaces acting Register of Wills Katie Pecarchik, who assumed the lead role in the office last September following the court-ordered resignation of Sherry Magretti Hamilton.
Schimizzi, 41, from Hempfield was tabbed by the governor to fill a court opening left vacant by the 2024 retirement of Judge Rita Hathaway. Hathaway administered Schimizzi’s oath of office on Tuesday before Schimizzi did the same for Wian later in the courthouse ceremony.
