Midway through its first season, the Pittsburgh-set medical drama “The Pitt” has been renewed for a second season by Max.
The series, which films almost entirely in Burbank, Calif., shot at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side for a week in September, collecting scenes that have been inserted in episodes throughout the show’s run.
Noah Wyle stars in “The Pitt,” which features many references to local locations, as a veteran ER doctor haunted by the loss of his mentor during the covid-19 crisis. Each episode covers one hour in the doctor’s one-day shift.
Max says since its debut, “The Pitt” has been among the streamer’s “most-watched titles globally,” though Max did not provide any data to support that assertion. This week Nielsen released ratings for Jan. 13-19, the first full week of the release of “The Pitt,” and the show did not make the Nielsen Top 10 for original streaming series.
New first-season episodes of “The Pitt” will continue to debut at 9 p.m. Thursdays through April 10.
