Some new ink will soon be available on Perry Highway in McCandless.

The Wexford Tattoo Company plans to open its doors March 15 at 10431 Perry Highway in the Phoenix Centre office building near North Allegheny Senior High School.

The shop may be new, but it is not the first go around for the owners.

Tony Urbanek, one half of the company’s ownership, owns Inka Dinka Doo, a 30-year-old tattoo studio in Lawrenceville. But at Wexford Tattoo Company, he has a partner — his wife, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth said the new shop will have space for four to five full-time artists with varying specialties plus a rotating cast of guest artists from across the country. That is in addition to a piercing shop, she said.

The couple moved to McCandless from Fox Chapel in 2021, she said, and they are working to deepen their connection in the area.

“We love being part of this community, and we just wanted to be more involved in the community,” Elizabeth said. “It’s just so exciting.”

In a statement, Tony said the couple is seeking an “upscale” experience at Wexford Tattoo Company. The shop, he said, will make “top-quality” tattooing available to those who live and work in the area “without driving into the city.”

As opposed to the open-floor “street shop” feel of Inka Dinka Doo, Elizabeth said the new studio will allow each artist and client a more private space during ink sessions.

As part of the shop’s grand opening, Elizabeth said artists will offer flash tattoo specials and merchandise and gift card giveaways. But as of now, she said she and Tony are still handling the renovation process, which will refloor and paint the new studio, among other changes.

“We’ve poured our hearts into building this studio, not just for tattoo enthusiasts but also for anyone who appreciates the artistry and storytelling behind it,” she said.
