Senior scam prevention

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their attempts to deceive older adults and gain access to personal information and finances. Sewickley Presbyterian Church’s Evergreens group is hosting a speaker from the FBI on April 3 to talk to seniors about internet safety, scams, and how to protect themselves from online fraud. The talk will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. in the church’s Ansby Hall.

FBI experts will share valuable insights on how these scams work, the warning signs to watch for, and simple yet effective ways to stay safe. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge on how to recognize and respond to potential fraud. RSVP at sewickleypresby.org.

Seed lending

Community members looking to grow their own gardens have an extra resource up their sleeve this year — the Sewickley Public Library launched a new Seed Library program, creating a resource for finding, growing and sharing seeds.

The library partnered with the Big Sewickley Creek Watershed Association and the Bell Acres Environmental Advisory Council to allow visitors to “borrow” seeds for vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, plant them at home, and then share the seeds from their plants at the end of the season with others.

To participate, community members can “borrow” seeds from the display in the library lobby. Everyone is encouraged to take only what you can plant this season. At the end of the growing season, participants are encouraged to save seeds from their plants and return them to the library to share. There is no cost, but returning seeds helps keep the program running.

Links in the Library

Friends of the Sewickley Public Library are hosting their annual Links in the Library mini-golf fundraiser with events for everyone the weekend of April 4-6. Sessions include a teen night April 4 from 7-9 p.m., family fun mini golf April 5 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., grown up putt-putt and 19th hole 6-8:30 p.m. April 5, and a ladies brunch and putt on April 6 from 10 a.m.-noon.
